March 22, 2013 – History will be made when FOX SPORTS’ revolutionary aerial camera drone, FoxKopter, makes its maiden voyage over water at next week’s ASP World Tour event at Bells Beach.
FUEL TV viewers will be taken closer to the surfing action than ever before with FoxKopter providing unprecedented vision at the Rip Curl Pro, presented by Ford, starting March 27.
FUEL TV Channel Manager, Adam Howarth, said, “Never before has a surfing broadcaster been able to provide live vision so close to the heart of the battle.”
“The addition of FoxKopter to FUEL TV’s live Rip Curl Pro broadcast will significantly enhance our coverage providing greater depth and quality of the prestigious surf event.”
“FoxKopter was first launched at last year’s KFC T20 Big Bash League providing never-before-seen vision. It has since been used to enhance FOX SPORTS’ NRL coverage and it’s fantastic that surfing fans will now experience the extraordinary vision captured by the camera.”
“It’s an exciting time for professional surfing,” Mr Howarth concluded.
Rip Curl International Events Manager, Brooke Farris, said, “FUEL TV is a great partner of the ASP World Championship Tour. Since the first live broadcast of the 2009 Rip Curl Pro Search in Portugal, we’re always looking to showcase innovation both in and out of the water. The FoxKopter will be a real asset to this year’s event, giving our fans a bird’s eye view of all the action at Bells Beach, Victoria.”
The ASP World Tour moves to Bells Beach for the 52nd Rip Curl Pro after a thrilling season opening event last week that saw 11-time world champion Kelly Slater prevail over reigning world champion Joel Parkinson in the final.
The scene is set for another fierce competition with defending Rip Curl Pro title holder Mick Fanning, flashy Hawaiian John John Florence and Gold Coast semi- finalist Michel Bourez all in sizzling form.
FOX SPORTS will begin its EXCLUSIVELY LIVE coverage of the Rip Curl Pro on Wednesday (March 27) at 7.30am EDT with the Morning Show.
FoxKopter uses a full 1920 x 1080i HD camera with a stabilised lens, 3D GPS positioning and 360 degree panning. It is the first camera drone of its type to be approved for use above the area of live surfing competition.
FUEL TV’s LIVE coverage of the ASP World Tour is available to FOXTEL subscribers.
FUEL TV is Australia’s only 24 hour action sports broadcaster, available in two million homes around Australia with six million potential viewers through FOXTEL and OPTUS TV. FUEL TV is also available in 4,000 pubs and clubs.
